STILLBROOK, Mass. – What started as a casual jog for Rep. Barney Frank has turned into a media frenzy, as the pol was spotted running sans shirt and mistaken for Matthew McConnaughey.  A group of bystanders called in the sighting of who they thought to be the West Coast hunk and soon the paparazzi were swarming. Dressed only in hot pants and New Balances, Frank tried outrunning the starfuckers but was eventually overtaken and surrounded.

The incident prompted Frank to call a press conference during which he chastised the reporters in attendance, called into question the relevance and credibility of the media as a whole, and vowed to never again take his shirt off in public.  Then the pol somehow managed to shift focus to the current administration and the Iraq War, stating, “If you spent half the time covering President Bush as you do these celebrities’ love lives or exercise habits, maybe we wouldn’t be at war.”  At this point he directly addressed one journalist kneeling by his side, asking, “Are you finished putting in your time overseas covering Iraq and Afghanistan?  Have you all?”

Not only had none of the reporters been to Iraq or Afghanistan but only a handful had ever heard of such places.

But after the stern lecture the press conference did end on a lighter note when Frank opened the floor to questions and someone asked what he thought about the event as an idea for a movie.  The pol responded, “Something like this, this extraordinary case of mistaken identity, was something I thought only happened in Hollywood.”

Variety reports that this “extraordinary case of mistaken identity” is catching a lot of buzz in Hollywood.  Sources say that Marty Kaplan, who wrote “The Distinguished Gentleman,” has started working on the script in which Matthew McConnaughey will be playing double roles and Brett Ratner is set to direct.  The working title is “Surfer Dude on Capitol Hill.”

The pictures of Frank will appear in next week’s issue of US Weekly.
